Does this "cinch lock collet" secure the bit so that that it cannot be pulled out without "unlocking" it?
Can it drill into studs and thin layers of plastic? I install alarm keypads, motion detectors, etc. I have my real drill as a backup.
can you take this in your carry on bag with traveling?
How is the battery life?

Disappointed, but hopeful.... and now satisfied.

** I am changing my rating... I left the driver on the charger overnight, well past when it indicated that it was fully charged. This morning I tried it, and there was a big difference in the amount of overall torque and performance. This driver had no problem sending a 3 inch deck screw in to a 2x4 all the way in. It also had no problem taking the screw back out, although I did have to give it a little help getting it started out, and then it took over from there. It's a powered screw driver, not a drill driver so don't expect it to have the same power, torque or ability of a drill driver, or impact driver. For small projects this is great. I do want to apologize to SKIL for the initial review, my only complaint now, and be it a minor one, the charged/charging indicator cannot be trusted. Other than that, this is another quality product from SKIL ... good job, guys.Pretty much all of my tools are SKIL, which is why it pains me to not be able to give this a full five stars. On a full charge it failed to back out a screw that with just a little effort I was able to break loose by hand, then it seemed to struggle to get it out of sheet metal. The bits are great, and the live wire locator works great... but to get out a screw that was not stuck, it failed. There is always a chance I just ended up with a bad one, it does happen from time to time. I am going to test it on a few things and see if I am just expecting too much, or the tool is not up to the high standard I have come to expect from SKIL. But for right now, I am not happy.

Wonderful Little Tool

I REALLY LOVE this cordless screwdriver. It is easy to use, and has a very "solid" feel to it. The body of the screwdriver fits well in your hand and allows you to get a good grip on it. What I really like is that, until you engage the "power" component of this screwdriver, it acts just like a regular manual screwdriver, THIS is very cool for "starting" a screw into a hole, and then turning on the power to finish the job. Right now, I cannot speak to the battery life, because this was my first time using it, however, me being the kind of guy who uses things until they are "used up", I used this tool to take apart a reciprocating fan that I needed to clean and lube for the upcoming hot season, and this tool did a great job of getting all those screws taken out and put back with beaucoup power left over. I am just very happy with this purchase

Know What You're Getting Into Before You Buy This

Before you buy this, KNOW that it doesn't have a lot of torque. There is a reason it does not advertise torque ratings like other screwdrivers. Look at the pictures and usage on product page from Skil or the Amazon page. Nowhere for this tool do you see people trying to drive wood screws. This is designed as a light duty screwdriver. The official torque rating on this is .9 Nm which is about 8.5 in-lbs. Even though I truly like this product, I am a bit surprised Skil didn't put a bit more power in it. With that said, it's perfect for the intended use I bought it for, which is for taking apart RC cars with the kids to make it less tedious unscrewing/screwing long finely threaded M3 screws. Plus it's always fun using power tools. It is also extremely handy as lately I've been replacing many outlets in my house. Here is my short list of what I thought would be a "perfect" screwdriver, and I was never interested in the "pistol style" screwdrivers: 1.)Locking chuck or collet 2.)Lighted 3.)Variable or multiple speeds 4.)Light weight 5.)Clutch 6.)Lithium powered 7.)Replaceable Lithium batteries (in case it goes dead while working) 8.)shaft locks in place so it can be used as a manual screwdriver. Based on this, I kept looking at the Hitachi/Metabo unit. For $60 it checks off all the list, but in the end I decided I really didn't need another charger taking up space in my garage when I already heavily invested in Milwaukee M12 and M18 Fuel products and chargers. My interest was also sparked by the Craftsman or Dewalt gyro units, but apparently Dewalt is having quality issues these days and I didn't like the thought of accidentally twisting my wrist on a very finely threaded screw into plastic.Like others, the first thing I tried this on was a license plate holder that I generally do pretty tight. It would not budge the screw, where the Worx unit had no problems even on the lowest setting. One turn of the Skil by hand to loosen up the screw and it does the rest. No big deal. This really isn't a deal breaker and I don't know why some people's expectations of this product are so high. Maybe if this screwdriver is the only power tool they own, but for those of us with vastly more powerful tools, this one fits the need for a low torque, lightweight and small screwdriver that won't strip small and finely threaded screws. My M12 Fuel Impact Driver is for most everything else. Here are my pros and cons which may also clarify issues from negative reviews.Pros:1.) Locking shaft -it immediately locks when not powered allowing the screwdriver to be used manually. This is the best feature of this unit. For comparison, the Worx one in the picture sometimes takes a full half turn before the shaft locks which is annoying.2.) Locking collet/chuck-not fully necessary, but you will appreciate bits not pulling off if you choose to put bits directly into the collet. Again for comparison, the Worx unit will occasionally lose it's bit due to only being magnetized.3.) Lighted-Not much to say here.4.) Balance/form factor/weight/grip- Love it. So well balanced and just seems perfect in my hand. It feels like a regular screwdriver. I'm not sure why some people say they need to use two hands to operate the unit unless maybe they have extremely small hands. The Skil screwdriver is 3 ounces lighter than the pictured Kobalt manual screwdriver (granted, the Kobalt has stored bits inside). The twist ring is super simple and intuitive and you do not have back your hand off the normal grip of a screwdriver just so your thumb can reach a reverse button on the others. It also feels perfectly balanced especially compared to the Worx unit.5.)Warranty-5 years, similar to Milwaukee. Hopefully Amazon is an authorized dealer if there are any issues.6.) Price-$27 is low enough to try the tool.Cons:1.) It really is "light duty", don't expect to drive wood screws. But again, know what you're getting into. It works for it's intended usage. Don't bash a product knowing it's limitations.....Should this even be a con? Get the Worx if you need MUCH more power.2.)Micro USB for charging....Some may like this, but Micro USB is like the "CD" of modern music. It's on it's way out, USB-C is the way to go and Worx is the only one I've seen that uses it. Directional plugs are just annoying...3.) No clutch. With it's low torque, this is not a big deal and also saves on weight by skipping the clutch. I've found that on my delicate work, a light grip of the screwdriver will make it turn in my hand when the screw hits any resistance. Then I manually do the last half turn. Problem solved. I never rely on a clutch to stop a screw anyways; I need the "feel" of how tight the screw is unless I'm driving larger screws into wood. What I've found is that no powered screwdriver is going to be perfect for everyone. But as someone who owns much more expensive and powerful tools, this one definitely has a place in my garage. It's a well designed small electric screwdriver.
