Q: Hi can I check the overall depth of the item including case and shaft?

The battery case is about 1.8 cm then the shaft with hands are 2 cm My clock was 1cm thick so the width of your clock would need to be taken into account but I needed to have the long shaft for the hands to be able to clear the raised numbers. Hope all that helps

Q: Can it be used outdoors?

Yes it can, however my replacement has been very disappointing as it sticks when going past the hour.
