A beautiful, gentle book to help little ones understand big emotions – loved by both our kids!
I bought “The Colour Monster: The Feelings Doctor and the Emotions Toolkit” for our two children — a 5-year-old autistic boy who is very sensitive and often overwhelmed by his feelings, and a curious 2-year-old girl who wants to do everything her big brother does. It’s quickly become a favourite in our home.💛 Simple, Engaging & Emotionally SupportiveThe book does a wonderful job of breaking down complex feelings like sadness, happiness, fear, and anger using colors and gentle visuals that really resonate with young children — especially our son. He loves naming the colors and matching them to how he feels, which is a huge step forward for him in emotional expression.👦👧 Great for Mixed AgesOur 2-year-old doesn’t grasp all the concepts yet, but she’s drawn to the bright illustrations and the fun, friendly “doctor” tone of the book. For our 5-year-old, it’s helped him begin to label and talk about his emotions without getting frustrated.🧩 Perfect for Neurodiverse KidsAs a parent of an autistic child, I appreciate how calm and clear the language is — no sensory overload, no overly busy pages. It respects their need for structure and visual cues, while still being fun and approachable.🎨 Interactive & RelatableThe "Emotions Toolkit" section at the back offers practical ideas that we’ve started using — like breathing exercises, choosing a “calm color,” or creating a feelings chart. It’s great for building emotional vocabulary and helping both kids feel more in control of their day.✅ Final Thoughts:This book is a gentle, thoughtful, and supportive tool for parents and carers. It’s especially valuable for neurodiverse children but engaging for all kids. It’s not just a story — it’s a resource we’ll keep coming back to.Highly recommended for early years emotional development and family bonding around tricky feelings.
