To get the obvious part out of the way for context: yes, these filters are just two sponges glued together. It's best used to catch chunks of debris such as food remnants in the water fountain. It is not a charcoal filter.I've purchased two packs of this product about a year apart. The most recent was in February 2023, the previous was in April 2022. I did not have any issues with the original pack I bought in April 2022.However, the most recent pack that I bought as a refill either uses a different kind of adhesive, or the adhesive is incorrectly applied. The glue will blend with the water after a short period of time, less than an hour, regardless of how well it is washed beforehand.Not only does the water have a very obvious glue smell to it afterwards, but it has a distinctly bitter taste to it as well (yes, I tasted the water). Fortunately, I have cats that are fickle enough to not drink contaminated water and let me know very quickly something was wrong by sitting in front of the water fountain and whining.I used two filters out of the pack I received, and both resulted in this bitter glue aftertaste to the water. To make sure it wasn't the fountain itself, I used a different brand of filters as a control which did not cause the glue smell or taste.I would VERY STRONGLY DISCOURAGE anyone from purchasing these. The product probably needs a recall, but given the manufacturer is apparently located somewhere overseas, that is unlikely to happen.

The filters are a great deal....work well

Does not fit . Too small for my dogs water fountain.
