The 5 Voices: How to Communicate Effectively with Everyone You Lead Hardcover – March 7, 2016

Through a stroke of luck I actually found myself employed by the authors of this book! These are two gentleman that actually practice what they preach (and that should speak volumes more than this book can tell you). Through true, partnership and self-awareness I have seen what is possible from the inside-out. The concepts in this book will help you cobble together an all-star TEAM that is able to rise to ANY challenge!

This book has had such an amazing impact on my life. More specifically my self-awareness with regards to my communication skills. I never really understood why i do the things i do and why i expect so much out of people. I get so excited about ideas and opportunities but never understood why others didn't as well when i would tell someone. I thought the difficulties i have with communicating with those close to me was just because i'm stubborn. After reading this book i found out so much about myself and those around me. It has greatly enhanced my dynamics with those I hold dear. I see my marriage improving everyday. My ability to construct the optimal teams for projects now dwarfs the what i thought i knew about team building. This book has been such an eye opener and was so fun to read as well. The authors do an amazing job of keeping the content relatable by including periodic testimonies from real people going through the same struggles. I'm looking forward to buying this book for all those i intereact with on a regular basis. I'm also excited to go back and check out some of the authors' others works starting with "5 Gears: How to Be Present and Productive When There Is Never Enough Time".

5 Stars for 5 Voices! 5 Voices, Kubicek and Cockram's latest book on "how to communicate effectively with everyone you lead," is a must-read if you want to understand your own personal communication style and how that impacts those around you.I learned that my foundational voice is Guardian/Nurturer, with a dash of Connector, and this book illustrated that I'm all about taking care of the details and at the same time, taking care of the people. However, for those on the other side of me, I was surprised to learn that my approach, although genuine, can come across as an interrogator. That's the last thing I want to be know for! Because I've read this book, I will be more cognizant of my Guardian nature in the future in order to be more effective in dealing with others. The concept of 5 Voices lends itself beyond business communication and carries itself to inter-personal relationships in all phases of life. This book has helped me see myself as others do, and more importantly, taught me how I am perceived by those around me. You will want everyone you know to read this book!

I think it's a great concept and I like how it explains how others interpret our words. I never rally thought that my voice can make someone feel not good enough, so now I'm more careful when I speak to someone with a different voice. What's more is that instead of placing you into one category, it helps you to understand that you possess some level of each voice and can shift between them as needed. My foundational voice is creative-pioneer. When in environments where there are immature creatives or pioneers, I tend to shift to the guardian and/or nurturer voices. Those I have better relationships with allow me to be primarily creative-pioneer and the other voices less frequently. I find that I have difficulties with others whose voices make me feel like I have to shift to my less dominant voices more often than I prefer. Another bonus is that it was written in such a way that it can be applied to personal relationships. That being said, be careful with trying to determine the voice(s) of others as you may be wrong. Just as I tend to shift to my non-foundational voices under varying circumstances, others do the same.The only negative I see is that I felt like the editing could have been stronger. For example, a number of the examples in the book are on the website; the authors also broke up chapters by topic instead of just by voice. Combined it gives the feeling that you're reading the same thing repeatedly. Also, the authors have some statistics about some voices but not for all. For example, I'm a woman and a creative-pioneer. It would be nice to know what percentage of the creatives and the pioneers are women.I have given this book to others to help with their relationships. With a few friends, who have taken it, when I see their foundational voice taking over I call them out on it.

This book has literally taken a veil off of my eyes. I’ve 100% found my voice because of the clear way the book explains what the voices are and I think I have figured out the voices of the other leaders that I work with. I can’t “unsee” the voices in our leadership now! This has been a game changer for me and I’m excited to introduce the book to our team! Thank you to the authors!!

Purchased for my husband. He is Really enjoying reading this book. It’s very insightful and helping him to understand his own leadership style and other leaders that he works with.

The typical personality type/social engineering kind of book. Worth the read if you're interested in the topic, but neither revolutionary nor life-changing, as the author attempts to make the book seem. A bit more dry and drawn out than it needed to be.

As a self-described personality profile junkie, I thoroughly enjoyed this approach to describing our tendencies, how they interact with each other and how important it is to be aware of what you are saying and how you are saying it. The care taken to repeatedly remind the audience that everybody is a mixture of all types and the easy to accept labels used made for an easy read that informed without offending. Added kudos for all the technical advice on how to best use the information provided.
