This made for a super interesting and fun learning experience and activity to do together with my 7 year old daughter. The smell was not bad at all and there were at least 10 small to medium size pearls inside that my daughter was able to extract from the flesh. We also cleaned out the shells to save as a display dish.

I don’t like leaving this kind of review. I was really disappointed in these pearls. All of them were dull with no color. I think the heavy strong formaldehyde must’ve destroyed the pearls. I didn’t keep any of them because of color and the strong formaldehyde. I do not recommend buying unless you like being disappointed.

I liked this product. Warning the smell is terrible the smell made my nose burn and my eyes water. Got about 31 pearls out. Fun to do. Beautiful pearls of purple white and pink. Also if u rub the pearl in the palm of ur hand it makes it shiny, due to the oils on your skin.

Kit arrived quickly. Pretty easy to crack open with a knife. There was a chemical smell (but not like formaldehyde) that was not pleasant, but bearable, to smell. We were outside, and my nose and eyes were burning from it before I even smelled anything. Kinda looks gross inside, but I never opened a shell before. The pearls were easy to find and extract. They were all pale shades of pink, and there were 27 of them. They mostly had a nice nacre, a couple dull spots here and there. I will use some in wire wraps. I would do this again!

I had read several reviews about bad smelling surprises but when I opened mine the large clam was dry and there was nothing smelling bad at all. I found pearls that ranged from creamy white to soft beautiful pink ones. They weren’t very big but they are very pretty. Some were worth turning into jewelry. I definitely will be ordering more. It was something that would be very special if done with a daughter, granddaughter etc or on a special day such as an anniversary celebration.

Not impressed. There were a lot of pearls, but not very good quality.

"Life is like a box of chocolates" that meaning is very true with Pearl Parties. You never know what you are going to get. With this pearl we ended up getting 29 pearls 28 of which were only 1-3mm in size with the last being 5.2mm. But that is just part of playing the Oyster Pearl lotto. Sometimes you get really lucky and get full sized pearls and others you get only a few total. Thats what makes it fun. if you want the perfect pearl just buy the pearl, buying an oyster is having the fun of opening them and seeing what you get.I see many people thinking their oyster is "rotten" but that smell is normal and is part of preserving the shell. Its best to open the bag and wash it right away and then soak it for 5-10 min in mild soapy water and then use gloves when opening and harvesting. If you are sensitive to the smell do it outside.But this was fun to open and my daughter is doing a pearl party for her 10th birthday next month and we will be buying a couple dozen for all her friends to open and make jewelry with an underwater theme.Will buy again.
