A freak in the sheath.
Recently bought 3 different brands of machetes from Ace Hardware and this one here. I have to say this is the best feeling in the hand, the best balance of weight. The blade is sharp and keeps its edge and delivers exactly where you strike. The weight is light but carries through the hit. Felled 3 maple saplings this afternoon with ease, this deserves a review.

Hooeyman hookem machete - so far so good.
The grip is comfortable, the sheath is decent nylon, the blade is thin and sharp with good balance and good weight at the top. The size seems perfect, not too small, not too large. I tested it on some 1.5" saplings in my yard that were surrounding a mature tree. It made short work of chopping through with just a few strokes on each. The hook part is functional for pull cutting vines. I like it and recommend it as quite good for the money. I am glad I bought it.Mind you I don't have any real experience with these things, being just an average joe. But I can see how useful this will be in the woods, since it is light and thin yet stout enough to clear brush and whatnot. The shape and design has common elements with the vaunted Woodsman's Pal, and I'd prefer to have bought that for any number of reasons - Made in USA vs China, obviously higher quality, original design, etc, but I can't justify the price differential. At least until I've used this Hooeyman product a lot, and can feel certain if it will work for me in the long term. So far it's a 5 star - taking into the account what you get for the money.

It's OK
Seems like a good value for the money, but don't expect it to be sharp out of the package.Especially the interior hook blade. It's about as sharp as a butter knife. Figure on spending a little time getting this thing sharpened.

Love it. Exactly what I wanted.
Bought this to replace my Woodman's Pal which got lost or left behind years ago. It was wonderful to have back during my hunting days but replacing it now costs $175-$225. This one has the same features and size, missing only the guard that goes around the fingers, and for only about 20 bucks. The hook blade is the best part. When you are removing vines or tall weeds, you just grasp the vine and put the hook at the base and pull towards you. It either slices it cleanly off at the base or pulls it out roots and all. Very handy tool.As for size, the overall length including handle is 17". The blade length from the hilt guard to the tip is 11.25".

Very Practical
The product was ready to use out of the box. The scabbard is very useful and clips in conveniently around a belt. I cleared a bunch of trees with this machete/tool. The big trees (6-8 inch dia.) I cut down with a chainsaw and then I could use the hook portion to firmly lodge it into the trunk, and it provided leverage for dragging the entire tree to a pile. The smaller 2-3 inch dia. trees, I used the same cutting/slashing technique employed with a bolo machete and easily cleared them out.

Perfect
I got this knife to cut a cactus that is growing over my fence. Cactus really stinks when pieces of it fall off. The machete works perfect. It's lite enough for me to use with ease (I'm a 70 year old female), but it's very sturdy. I cut off most of what was hanging over my fence today, right after I got the knife. Most of them came off with one swipe. The hook part works well in the right spots. I'm extremely happy with this purchase. It does exactly what I want it to do.
