I was going to buy a dedicated HTPC to have computer access on my 60" HDTV in my living room and some that I looked at came with a similar wireless keyboard (but without the backlight). For now though I decided to use one of my XPS laptops connected to HDMI instead of buying a new PC. Problem is that is was a real pain to go into the media cabinet and pretty much crawl on the floor to control the laptop every time I wanted to locate, start, or stop a movie, etc.I decided to order this wireless keyboard/touchpad combo instead since it was a lot less expensive then buying a new computer. I am SO glad I did and am VERY IMPRESSED with this little device! It is super easy to use and gives me complete control over my computer, even from across the room. The backlighting is also wonderful and works very well. The keys have a very nice 'click' to them and I can easily and quickly type using my thumbs. The keyboard is very comfortable to hold and use. Even my wife loved it after using it the first time and she had no problems using it either.I have a very large living room and our chairs are more then 20' away from the media cabinet and we have no issues with connectivity with the included USB receiver. The laptop is inside a media cabinet behind heavy wooden doors and there are all kinds of other pieces of equipment in there, including some that are wireless. One note though is that when I had the receiver plugged directly into the USB port I would occasionally lose connection for brief moments; however, I decided to use the USB extension cable that came with the keyboard and put the receiver closer to the front of the cabinet and in that location it never loses connection at all.The touchpad is also very nice and easy to use. I love the layout of the keys and there are multiple options for left and right click. Scrolling and multi-finger gestures work perfectly.My one and only minor compliant is that there is no auto backlight mode option (i.e. having it turn on automatically when a key is pressed and then turn off after a certain time.) The way it is you have to manually turn on the backlight by pressing a button; it then stays on for a preset amount of time after no key is pressed. Next time you want backlight, you have to press the backlight button again but nothing happens, and then you have to press a second time to turn on (it does not reset the state after it turns itself off). I wish you could just set it to turn on when a key is pressed, then turn off by itself, then on again next time a key is pressed. This is only a minor issue though and the device is so nice and so well thought out that it is not a deal breaker.I would definitely recommend this product to anyone who needs a great, compact controller for a HTPC or similar device.UPDATE 11/8/2015I found out through trial and error that once you activate the back light the first time it will come back on automatically when you press any key OTHER THAN THE BACK LIGHT KEY), even after the keyboard goes into sleep. If you press the back light key then it does turn it back off and would require a second press to turn back on. So, just press it once to turn on and then it will come back on by itself when you press a key. Note, if you turn the power switch off you'll have to turn back light on again when to first turn the keyboard back on.I've upped my rating to 5 stars now as it's perfect for me. Still have no issues at all and still on my initial charge.Still love it!!

The Rii i8 + Wireless 2.4G Mini Keyboard is basically palm sized. It comes with a USB charging cable, the keyboard itself (that contains a pre-charged built-in Lithium ion battery), a USB dongle receiver, and a small Thank You card from the manufacturer and user manual.When you open the package, the USB dongle is located in the compartment on the backside of the keyboard.It's driver-less - meaning for Windows or Android 4.4 Streaming Media Boxes or Linux systems it's just plug the dongle receiver into an available USB port and switch on the Wireless keyboard. Pairing is immediate. That's it. It has proven compatible with any Smart TV, Streaming Media Box, Windows PC, or Linux PC I've hooked it up to.Incredibly light with good wireless range and positive key clicks ... the caveat is the amount of wireless "pollution" around you. I've seen it used fine in large lecture halls with some professor droning on about the mating habits of the common household dust mite ... but in rooms and labs with a lot of interference or a lot of competing wireless keyboard devices or a lot of NSA snooping, your range will significantly decrease.Not waterproof or anywhere near resistant. Do not do a Lil Wayne and pour champagne on it. This is not a Samsung Galaxy S7.It has LED indicator lights that light up whenever you're typing something, whenever the device is coming out of sleep mode, or whenever you turn it on and it reconnects to its USB receiver. The blue LED a little too bright, LOL.The key feature of this Rii model is the backlit keyboard. Although it is bright enough to see all buttons in a dark room without blinding you, the spotty placement of the LEDs under the keyboard make some keys dimmer and some keys brighter and the buttons around the touch screen barely visible at all. It's usable though, and if you're like me, I'm not looking at the keyboard keys when using it anyway.Another key feature is the battery life. A major complaint with the Rii's cheaper clones out there for sale that people buy, is that their battery life is so poor they don't last more than a few class periods before demanding a charge - the solution of which is to buy two cheap clones which brings you up to the cost of a single Rii. Mainly this happens because the clones usually lack a sleep feature, they're transmitting all the time and require you to manually power them off when not in use. After a short span of time, the Rii will go into sleep mode conserving battery. A simple press on the OK button and you're typing away again. I've used the Rii for up to 10 days without a recharge. The downside ... the battery is not end user replaceable unless you're really handy with a soldering iron and can find the replacement battery wholesale (which by the way, costs 3x the amount of the entire Rii). Battery life, with reasonable care, can be up to 5 years. If it dies in year 6, you've pretty much got your money's worth out of it.It's a good usable quality for what you're paying for. Uses a lower grade of plastic for the shell that may give it a slick feeling ... and here are more solid feeling, rubberized versions of it's design by other manufacturers ... but for such unnecessary cosmetic items you'll be paying more money for essentially the same thing. There are cheaper clone versions of this by budget manufacturers that are made so cheap and flimsy that pressing one key presses multiple keys and the back storage compartment door falls off (essentially anything under $15), not to mention their short battery spans. You get what you pay for.In short ... It will do the job it's supposed to do. If you want cheaper, you'll get a cheaper device you'll end up pitching in the trash.
