Convenient little camp/chore knife

I like folding knives and have a few, but sometimes what I really want is a fixed-blade knife. A folding knife is nice to have for finer work, but if I'm camping, hiking, or doing chores I often need something more heavy duty.I was on a jobsite a few years ago and one contractor had a knife similar to this one on the back of his belt. He used it for a bunch of stuff-- cutting up boxes, opening packages, all sorts of little odd jobs. It occurred to me that a small knife like this is perfect as a sort of heavy-duty utility knife. I don't know what brand his was but I browsed around and found this.I like the fact that this is a full tang knife. It feels really solid, and while I wouldn't want to try to split a log with it, I have easily used it to split smaller pieces of wood into kindling. It's also a good choice for cutting away stray creepers or brambles, or for shaving twigs into fire sticks. I keep it very sharp and it will slice through rope and cordage quickly and cleanly. I haven't used it for food prep in the field but I bet it would do that as well, though it's a little small to be doing much dicing. The clip holds the sheath very securely on my belt and it's repositionable so I can orient it for either side of my body. The sheath holds the knife securely as well. There are no rattles even when hiking and it takes a reasonable- but not excessive- amount of effort to pull the knife out. It is easy to grip even with wet hands, and the finger reliefs prevent it from slipping. This is a perfect knife for a hiking pack, or an excellent backup for a larger camp knife. It's smaller and more convenient than a large fixed-blade knife but stronger than most folders. That means that you're more likely to have it with you even when you're tempted to leave your heavy kit at the campsite, in the car, or back home.As an aside, this knife is 100% legal to carry in my area, though I'm well aware that it may look a bit too "tactical" for people to feel at ease with it. Ironically, my Swiss Army knife has a blade that is about the same length as this one but nobody bats an eye when I carry it. Ditto my vintage 2-blade jackknife, which looks like something a grandfather would use to whittle branches but is extremely sharp with a keen point. Out of those three, this knife will be the only one that will draw a second glance. For this reason, I'll mention that the small size gives you another advantage-- discretion. I can tuck this knife in a small pocket on one of my hiking packs and forget about it until I need it, and I won't raise any eyebrows.

A great little ready to pocket carry EDC knife.

What a great little EDC knife. Comes with a nice clip setup for pocket carry! Slipped straight into my pocket.Knife retention in the sheaf is a bit tight as it should be in any new blade.Easy to draw with a thumb on the sheaf.

I'm Screwy

I bought this nearly 3 years ago. Wonderful knife I carry it hidden on a lanyard when I walk. Super sharp. Today the little screw that binds the knife sheath and the clip broke. If I can't figure out how to repair it, I will definitely buy another, it's that good.

Great knife

The knife is a great knife.but the sheath you have to be careful with.the clip on the back you set it to your desired position and don't move it again and you will be Allright. The screw is attached to the clip and if you keep turning it you will strip it out.and then no more clip to attach to belt.

Disappointed

Been buying SOG knives & gear since the beginning before the rebranding. I have looked at sub 3 inch fixed blades recently and bought this one on a whim.Arrived quickly as usual. Packaging itself shows how cheaply made this one is since it is just a piece ofcardboard with the knife itself in a plastic window. Cute little case with jimping and lashing all around and rotating pocket clip that has the SOG logo on it which is totally unnecessary as SOG is printed all over the case, handle, and blade itself. Case fits ok but is not rattle free and mars the blade and leaves shaved off pieces on the blade. It also lacks a drainage hole. It was also not very sharp on arrival and I had to actually sharpen it immediately.PS: the other sub three inchers I have ( White River, GiantMouse , Esee Isula ,and an equally cheap Holtzman Gorilla all came shaving sharp right out of the box).

really nice weight and balanced knife, holds tight in the sheath.

i needed a knife to begin my EDC at work and everywhere and anywhere, i wanted something small, but quality that was fixed blade, so i can get to it and have it ready to go right away with just one hand. this knife absolutely dose that better than anything else ive ever owned, this is my first fixed blade knife ive bought and i dont think ill ever buy anything else again, the sheath the metal, everything about it is perfect, i need to conceal this while wearing dress pants, a belt dress shoes and a tucked in shirt everyday to work without anyone being alarmed because they see the handle on my belt, so i clip it inside of my right side pocket with the clip rotated one click forward and its PERFECT it hides it JUST out of sight right behind the beginning of my pocket, after watching a few youtube vids on how i should carry a concealed EDC knife and spending a half hours in the mirror trying to find where i wanted to conceal it, for at work the pocket is just the best place, even thought i would have liked it on my belt sideways but it just obvi dose not sit totally flat and flush with my body because obviously its a straight knife and not bent, when im not at work though and inm going to a store it is on my belt because i care less if someone in wawa catches a little glimps of it. the grip feels just so amazing in your hand you just wanna hold it all of the time, but this is a tool for that time you might need it, not a toy to use for any excuse you can find a reason for including dumb stuff. if you carry this at work, KEEP IT CONCEALED AND OR IN YOUR POCKET dont go around showing everyone of your work buddies letting the whole world know what your working with or that your slightly prepared should the need to be ever arise, otherwise you might end up getting yourself in trouble with it, and than you might not be able to carry it there anymore and now your not prepared. after finding where i wanted to conceal it, i practiced my draw and putting it back in the sheath a good few times to get used to the motion and also to break in the sheath a little which didn't really break it in because its still really tight, which is a really good thing to me. this thing isnt going to come out by accident at all, no way no how, nicest knife i have ever owned by a long shot and the price just makes it that much better, not a single regret of purchase here.,
