Great product!
This might sound kind of weird, but I actually purchased this to use on my face as a moisturizer. I read not too long ago that beef tallow is an excellent moisturizer and, because it has properties that resemble your own skin's sebum, that it can repair and protect your skin as well. That being said, keep in mind that my review will be based on the purpose for which i bought this product (although I've also started eating it! :)I was a little reluctant to buy this because some of the reviews said that it had a very strong pungent odor. I did not find this to be the case. It definitely has a faint scent, but its no unpleasant or overpowering. It actually reminded me a little bit like shea butter, which some people also find unpleasant. It moisturizes beautifully! I'm not sure that it is any better than other fats and oils i've used before, namely coconut, argan and rosehip oil as well as shea butter. So i can't speak as to whether or not it will improve my skin, but I like it so far. I also find the taste to be much milder than I would have expected based on some of the reviews. I tasted it the first day I got it, and I've been putting some in my bone broth as well. I can't say that I taste a difference. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing, since this is my first experience with tallow, however, for my purposes that works just fine! Finally, it arrived well packaged and in a timely fashion! I also find the cost to be very reasonable considering that this comes from grass fed animals and it is a rather large container. I ultimately decided to go with this one because skin care products made from tallow were much more expensive for a lot less. This has met all my expectations, now lets see if my skin improves! :)

This stuff is IT. I was reading a blog in which the writer described how using a fat that is FIRM at room temperature completely transformed her pie crust like 500% better. The point she was making is cutting the fat into the flour and other ingredients with firm fat that doesn't start melting/softening at room temperature and keeps its integrity when the crust is rolled out is the magic - each little solid piece of fat that keeps its pocket intact as it's rolled out is likewise an area of the dough that becomes a separated flaky layer - so there is all kinds of extra flaky texture through the final baked crust. So - her blog said she found this in buffalo tallow, but I ordered both fatworks brand beef tallow and their buffalo tallow and strangely enough, the BEEF tallow was the one that stays super hard at room temperature, which according to the blogger is a sign of great quality and healthy natural diet of the animals. So why the fatworks buffalo/bison tallow is softer who knows. The blogger got hers from some local bison ranch I think. But I did do a taste test of my own, making pie crust and tartlets with fatworks beef tallow, buffalo tallow, and pork lard (I forget which brand) and the beef tallow won the taste test hands down. A great savory hint of animal origin in the aroma of the crust, which gives a fantastic old fashioned depth and well rounded flavor to a sweet filling pie - something most people have not ever tasted (or older generations not in many many decades) since the fat police outlawed good old fashioned animal fat.

I would rather smell like a hamburger than look like beef jerky!
This arrived within 24 hours of ordering covered in lots of bubble wrap and I opened it right away with some difficulty. The lid was on very tightly. It took all of the He-man tricks to get it open including a vice-grip type bottle opener. Once opened, the tallow had a nice odor and color. I scooped out a little bit and put it in another container. It is a bit gritty / grainy as others have said but once it melts on your skin the gritty feeling goes away. I was in a hurry so I microwaved it; next time I will use a double boiler to melt the amount that I want. I mixed it with a smidgen of TJs sunflower oil (because that is all I have at the moment) and let it cool. I then added a few drops of camomile oil (it didn't really affect the smell) and mixed it up with a toothpick and applied it to my face and hands. As others have said, IT FEELS AMAZING!!! Later in the evening I got into the shower and was able to spread it even further (up my arms to my elbows) and down my neck and upper chest - so a little of this does go a long way. It was pretty much totally absorbed the next morning. I even put some on my lips before bed and when I awoke there was no dryness at all. My face is very soft (I am 58) and most of the lines are plumped out and hardly visible. This stuff with some tweaking will certainly replace all of the other beauty creams that I have paid a small fortune for that never work. I will also use this in my smoothies in the morning just to ensure that I get the benefits inside as well as outside. Will definitely be buying more way before the expiry date!

Beloved addition to the kitchen pantry
The discourse regarding the use of animal- versus vegetable-based fats ping-pongs around health, cruelty, and simply "best outcome" effects of choosing any one of an increasing number of available options. For us, while we're not massive meat-eaters by any stretch of the imagination, there are simply some more tailored fats for cooking certain recipes, and Beef Tallow makes a lot of my recipes that much better, not to mention healthier if you take an unbiased look at the various research (which can have your head spinning if you're not careful). We still use Olive and Avocado Oils for many dishes, and of course salads, but this particular brand of Beef Tallow is a much-used addition to our kitchen for chili, some pasta dishes, certain pan-seared or cooked meat (can't have too much of a good thing!), and even a soup I recently made. While pricey (you can find beef tallow a LOT cheaper), we don't use so much for any given recipe that we run out quickly.
