I really loved this book, very inspiring to get out more with children

This is an easy-read account of a Swedish-born mother who takes her American-raised children over to Sweden to live there for six months. It provides an insight into both cultures and the prevailing attitudes and approaches to childhood, parenting and being outside. The author has been incredibly honest about her own fears, values and expectations. It fills a niche about parenting and outdoor issues. At the end of each chapter there's some useful reading and comments throughout the book are referenced at the end. Also, because of my busy schedule, I was able to pick the book up and continue where I'd left off which is a rare treat.

The book was as ordered, good price.

Bought this together with the Danish way of Parenting. Seeing the author’s names I was quite surprised to learn that they are actually Americans and the books are targeting American audiences. Not overly relatable to me as a European and definitely not educational- yet. I am struggling to continue reading

This gives some insight into parenting the Swedish way, where kids are allowed to roam unchaperoned around neighbourhoods and local woods. However, the author comes across as a bit smug about her wonderful hands-off eco-friendly Scandi parenting style and all its benefits. Her kids are no doubt perfect little apparatchiks who would sneak on a classmate for not recycling properly. I'm sure it's all very lovely bringing up kids in a small town where social trust is high. Not sure it would work the same in my part of London.
