horrible instructions
it took me 4 hours even using their website to get anything done. i am still not done setting this up on my phone. the dashcam has a great picture but good luck getting it connected to your phone. whoever wrote the instructions assumes the user already knows how to connect it to the wifi and to the phone.STILL TRYING TO GET IT SET UP. my phone says no camera available even after i added my camera.update. 11-20-19- i finally figured this out and i really like this thing. i ordered another from amazon and even shared on facebook. it is very easy to set up. the instructions are no good, use youtube. basically, get the app, open it, then go to settings, wifi, connect DDPAI on wifi. done. i just saved ya 4 hours.46 bucks on amazon. great deal.

Better than i expected
It was a nice camera for my new car. It has all the features i was looking for. The wifi signal is strong and stays connect to my phone, the app is user friendly, i could edit the video from there. No doubt the video quality is great.

App requires permission to make phone calls, access contacts, GPS, etc..
Just look at the reviews for the DDPAI app in the Google Play store. It requires obviously unnecessary permissions to work. One review described that the app previously worked better, then it updated the firmware of the dashcam and the app updated, requiring the unnecessary permissions in order to work.Other complaints are that in order to use the app with the dashcam, you are required to turn off mobile data. Every time. How incredibly inconvenient.I was looking for a dashcam that encodes in h.265. That's how I found this. This looks like a great dashcam, especially with the h.265 encoding, but some things aren't adding up.As of 2018-09-01, the Android app ratings in the Google Play store are as follows:Overall: 2.5 out of 5 stars based on 60 ratings.5 stars: 14 ratings **************4 stars: 6 ratings ******3 stars: 3 ratings ***2 stars: 8 ratings ********1 star: 29 ratings *****************************I like how one user called the app a Chinese trojan horse for government spying.I am not saying this is the case, but with Russia and China attempting to spy/influence/hack/etc., the US, and/or just all sorts of companies, domestic and foreign alike, attempting to collect all sorts of data, the incredibly sketchy requirements of this app seem all-the-more concerning. The concept and hardware seem great. Can I use this dashcam without the app? I'm not sure.It doesn't look like it even has an optional SD card port.It can be connected to a computer via USB port. (Has anyone analyzed whether it attempts to infect computers connected this way? I'd love to see if anyone does. (Computer security professionals out there, I recommend buying and analyzing this dashcam.)Can it be connected to a phone via wi-fi for data transfer only, without using the app?If so, what's the security of this? Can anyone walking or driving near your vehicle with Wifi download your video recordings as well? Can it update its own firmware on wifi without your interaction, bricking itself, or making it so that if it does work without the app right now, that the app would then be required in order to obtain video from it? Perhaps a firmware update could disable the ability to transfer videos via USB cable from a computer as well at some point. The already sketchy actions of DDPAI for this, as described by reviews on Android, are enough to keep me from buying it.If we assume the worst: that it's a spying tool, can it potentially connect to every open wifi it can to transmit data? Even if all it did was collect info on every wifi-capable device (like cell phones) it was able to identify near it, it can then be used to share who is geographically near whom. (This is also part of the computer security discussion around the significance of US government collection of metadata, which politicians often downplay, as just the info about phone calls, such as who is calling who from what device and location at what times, but it has been proven that this "only" metadata can be used to gain an incredible amount of information that can build to show who people talk to and when and for what duration, which can actually be (and is) quite revealing. )If you'd like to read further about matters relating to computer security, just head over to the blog of a world-renowned computer security expert, Bruce Schneier (who you will see touted by The Economist, and many others) at schneier.com.As for this particular dashcam, I have more questions about whether it could be useful and reliable, and whether it would remain so for years after buying it. (Rather than, as one user described, it automatically updated the app and firmware shortly after buying it, making it much less useful and reliable.)(By the way, I haven't looked at the Apple store reviews for this app yet.)DDPAI,1. If you're reading this review, what assurance can you provide?2. Can you also show us that you are willing to either fix the issues people have encountered, and allow people to downgrade their firmware and the app for usability?3. Also, what do you have to say about the app's requirement for access to contacts and for permission to make phone calls??If you reply to this review, please include answers to these questions.Thank you.

3 months update.
The media could not be loaded. First few week it was nice but then i hooked it for constant power for parking mode.Thats when things started to show up.I have had one successful recording of my parking mode. After that the screen freezes then it stop working entirely and goes on theft mode for no reason. I was unble to get footage of my close call cause of this camera.I loved the picture quality but the amount of issues i have faced is not worth it.The app was good and convenient too
