Gives that personalised touch to your turning
First thing to clarify is that if you are a wood turner, this is not the sort of wood burning kit you might have seen online where you use 2 prongs to burn intricate random patterns-it is instead more of a wood burning engraving setNevertheless it is pretty good!It is basically a hybrid soldering iron, with a silicon grip. The kit comes with an extensive range of different add-ons for creating different patterns. It has a temperature ring and on/off switch on the burner which is alright for turning on/off.Whilst this kit has an amazing set of different nibs I do have 2 slight issues with it.The first is the biggest which is despite having a silicon handle, it does still get quite warm, which is not unexpected, however the reason I highlight this is if a child is using it, after a while it may become too warm for the to comfortably hold. The second issue is merely to do with one of the attachments has a screwthread for fitting on all the fancy extensions like stars, butterflies and other shapes. Once put on when hot, it is quite difficult to get off to the extent you have to wait for it to cool down completely. However if you are not in a hurry this isnt an issue, just dont expect to be able to turn off the heater and easily just immediately change the ends because you will have to wait for it to cool down or use a cloth like I did to hold it.Other than that however it is a fairly decent, cheap all round kit.I have had no prior experience with anything like this (although I have done my fair share of soldering), and thus I was not expecting the results I got!My warning is that don't expect perfect even engraving unless you are very skilled, if that is the sort of thing you are looking for, then invest in a laser engraver much easier/quicker.But if you are wanting that truly personalised touch with a hand-made vibe to it then this kit is fantastic.I did it on a decorative plate for a scout/explorer leader friend who was leaving, and it did come out pretty fantastic. For turners, I found if you made a mistake the best thing to do was to go over the pattern you want to keep twice, so it was medium deep, then turn off a thin layer off the top so it gets rid of any surface markings from pencils or any mistakes you made.Overall I am actually quite pleased with this kit. Whilst it doesn't feel super high quality, it was cheap, works decently, comes with a wide vareity of extensions and feels pretty well built. It is simple, easy to use and quite effective.Overall for the price it was a good buy as it allows me to do a lot more than I needed, leaving me scope for the future (maybe trinket boxes with engraved stars or hex patterns around the edge).Even if I only use it 2 or 3 times it'll have made its worthSo in brief; works well, with lots of accessories, allows an newby like me to make some nice intricate hand carved/engraved messages/patterns at a low cost. It does get a little warm when using but I imagine you'll be hard pushed to find one that won't for under £100, nevermind for just shy of £20!I wasn't dissappointed, you probably won't be either.

A nice starter kit
I was inspired to buy this wood burning kit after seeing a handmade ‘naughty stool’ in a local shop window. It was a chunky, crudely made, bench style stool with the words NAUGHTY STOOL burnt into it, in solid letters - but it was far too expensive to buy. However, I thought “I could make one of those” for my two youngest grandchildren - with outline lettering (it would need a heavy duty burner to do large solid letters). I haven’t done so – yet, though! The children are still very young, so there’s plenty of time….. plus I’d have to make the stool first. On the other hand I could, instead, burn NAUGHTY STOOL onto a little stool that my grandfather made for their mother.I love the name Pyrography Pen (it sounds better than Wood Burning Pen) but, listed as a 37pcs Wood Burning Kit, the card with 28pcs on it primarily says SOLDERING. The pieces include, wood burning tips, carving tips, soldering tips, and five small embossing stamps I love the heart, star, square, clover leaf, and bird embossing stamps, and I would have liked to have more of these stamps - in different shapes and sizes. The best I’ve managed so far was to decorate the base of a mug tree. I’m still trying to improve my handwriting, but my head is full of ideas. I’m still recovering from a serious injury in which I nearly lost my leg, but wood burning will be my New Year’s Resolution. This kit is probably not the best for serious wood burning enthusiasts, but it comes in a nice zipped case, with two pencils for stenciling letters and numbers from the two templates (ready for burning), and for sketching designs on the wood to burn into it. The more burning you do, (like wooden key rings, name plates, picture frames etc.) the more you will want to do. This is a good starter kit for beginners, and it would make an ideal Christmas present that’s a little bit different.

Big range of heads that fit onto a standard soldering iron tip.
I had the pleasure of attending a skills session in a wood a while ago, making prints from stuff found on the ground, and also playing with a wood burner. I particularly enjoyed that, so fancied a go a something similar at home. This was a bit of an impulse buy, based primarily on price. It is based on a basic soldering iron, rather than being a specific wood burning tool. The wide variety of heads fit over the tip of the soldering iron and offer a bewildering array of burn patterns, certainly sufficient for someone to be limited by creativity alone.A couple of stencils are included, but these are plastic so can't be used directly with any of the heads. Instead, there are pencils to draw out the pattern which then has to be burned freehand.Overall, a decent range of tips and whilst not a perfect solution for the budding wood artist it's certainly very well priced great value for money for the beginner.

Wonderful Kit, Great Price
I'm new to Pyrography. I've wanted to try it for some while, but I was dissuaded by the cost of the equipment. When I saw this complete kit for less than £20 I thought I would give it a try. I'm really happy I did. This bumper kit is packed with tools and accessories. As well as the heating iron, there is a large selection of different burning tips, plus some useful templates to help achieve a perfect design. Everything is neatly stowed in a fabric case.I'm enjoying this hobby and I'm still learning the varying effects the different burn rates have on different types of wood, but I'm really pleased with this purchase and would encourage anyone with an interest to give it a try.
