IWAKI Air Quality Detector - Has Everything, including Simplicity
The IWAKI Air Quality has everything you would want in an air quality monitor.PM2.5 (PM2.5 describes fine inhalable particles, with diameters that are generally 2.5 micrometers and smaller)PM1.0 (PM1.0 describes fine inhalabe particulate matter (PM) less than 1 micron in size).PM 10 (PM10 describes coarse inhalabe particles less than 1 micron in size).CO (carbon monoxide)CO2 (carbon dioxide)HCHO (formaldehyde)TVOC (total volatile organic compounds)TEMPHUMIDITYI plugged the unit into a spare Type-A USB port on my laptop. The unit has a Type-C port. The included USB cord made the connection, and the battery icon on the unit's screen began blinking in the upper-right corner. I pressed the POWER button and the screen lit up. The unit calibrates itself, so I just left it alone to do its thing.Several hours later, the battery icon shows that it is fully charged. The Air Quality bar at the bottom of the screen, which shows grades from green (all's okay), to yellow (meh...) to tan (uh, not good) to red ("Danger, Will Robinson!"). A little white pointer shows you where along the bar your air quality is. The pointer is sqaurely under the green region, but I would get nervous if the pointer began to slide over to the red region! Fortunately, the unit would start beeping at me if that should happen. Yes, it has an alarm system if any of the measurements move beyond the acceptable counts.

Random number generator
The CO2 detection on this is worthless. I've had it running for 3 days now and it always just reads near 400 ppm, but it changes slightly every few seconds. It doesn't change if you take it outside. It doesn't react at all if you breathe on it, which is ironic as the instructions tell you to do exactly this to test it.Meanwhile, I have another CO2 detector right next to it that reads 600-1000 when it's indoors depending on the people in the house, and it goes down to 400 when I take it outside, which is correct for the earth's atmosphere and general indoor expectations.Given this compelely incorrect reading on CO2, I can't trust anything else on this.

Fast response, clear and bright display.
I like that this gives measurement updates every second or two. I have other air quality sensors, and for the PM measurements, they're pretty close. The C02 sensor on this unit always reads much lower than the other one. Usually around 400, which is normal for fresh outdoor air, but insode my home in winter is not a source of fresh outdoor air, so I doubt the accuracy of the CO2 measurement. This is a handy unit for short term cordless use, you can walk around your house or place it in a place without easy power for a few hours, but then you'll need to plug it back in so the battery will recharge slowly. So plan on keeping it plugged in if you want to have it run 24/7. A cheap 5v USB-C charger is fine.

Nice Little Monitor
Really like this monitor, especially the bar at the bottom to give you the “bottom line up front” of the air quality in your home.Very clear display, and I know it works because the audible alarm went off and visually showed me the degraded air quality when my kitchen got quite smoky while cooking. The battery doesn’t last long, but I mostly leave it plugged in anyway. The cord plug in is oddly placed on top, I assume to keep the back clear for the sensor. This leaves kind of an odd aesthetic when it’s left plugged in, but on the functionality, it’s absolutely fantastic with telling you what you need to know about your air quality.

A toy
This is basically a toy and doesn’t give accurate or reliable information. The particulate readings do have some general relative accuracy and will pick it up if you To be stir up a big cloud of dust and go down as a purifier cleans it, but it tends to eventually go down to a baseline reading that I don’t trust. The CO2 also seems to always settle around 400 for me, which is considerably lower than a more expensive monitor I have and seems to be the baseline it settles on, but it could have some general accuracy. When I breathe on it, the CO2 does rise very dramatically, but so does the VOC count. It’s possible that that is biological vapors on my breath. If you drift alcohol vapors near the sensor, it will affect the CO2 level as well, which makes no sense, so there seems to be a nonsensical connection between the CO2 sensor and VOC so I would not trust the VOC at all. VOC levels seem to be difficult to measure without expensive monitors. I have not tested the CO function and it’s possible it could work and warn you of dangers, but that’s so serious you should have a separate approved monitor for that. As other reviewers have noted the battery life is just a few hours. I think you’re better off spending closer to $200 and getting a monitor that is at least a little more reliable rather than wasting money on this.

Shipping may cause false readings at first
Was getting high particulate readings when first removed from box and turned on. Was going to return but decided to sit it outside in a mild breeze for an hour. Since then, it has worked perfectly. It was dry and clear outside when I did this.
