Excellent compact multitrack recorder
This DP006 arrived 2 days earlier than advertised and with a 4GB card installed instead of the 2GB one advertised so I was a happy shopper. Things got even better once I unpacked and started using this terrific device. Some have complained about the manual but I don't know why, it is clear and very comprehensive - using the quick start section at the beginning, I was recording acoustic and electric guitar tracks inside 20 mins and I have never used a multi-track recorder before. The DP-600 is deceptively small for the capabilities it has, you do need to read the manual to know how to find things but with limited space, buttons and screen available I think Tascam have done a pretty good job. The latter sections of the manual go into depth regarding all the operations, and then some, that you can work through in the quickstart section, no shortage of information at all. The internal mics are excellent and the sound reproduction great, it is designed for portable use and all you need is a set of headphones and a musical instrument. You can use this as a scratch pad for ideas or laydown multi tracks, eventually creating a master stereo track that can be saved or exported and the undo function is particularly useful if you get something wrong. I have previously tried to use sequencers on keyboards to record things but they were so much more hassle than this device - you can have as much lead time into the important part of the recording as you like so you are not pressing buttons and trying to play at the same time. Then, when you are happy with what you have created, use the in/out button to trim your song to how you want it. Very flexible, good quality piece of equipment, all for just over £100, no complaints at all.

Very useful
Where does one start with this...You will need the manual unless you have owned one before and because of the facilities offered, you will be using it regularly. It is small, well designed and flexible. The limited use I have made of it, proves the quality of recorded sounds. My specific use will be four microphones to produce soundtracks for video and it will do that plus backing music. It is really not for copying of records or tapes because there are many cheaper and easier recorders for that purpose. However if you want a small professional studio, this is it. Just make sure that you keep the instructions with you and upgrade to a 32Gb card or even two. And remember to format and set up the cards as per the instructions.

studio
small enough to fit in a guitar case or pad case, yet flexible enough for the musician who wants to record ideas on the road, or wants to record tracks for that first album. needs some practice as its not quite intuitive first out of the box, watch a couple of you tube clips and its easy to use, can run on either mains or 4x AA batteries, wil allow instruments plugged in or recording via 2 x built in sensetive mics. stores music on supplied micro sd card.

Nice little multitrack Recorder.
I still use my old Tascam Portastudio O2 and O3 tape machines for some recordings. Trouble is, they are, to all intents and purposes, mains only: what I needed was a small, battery powered recorder, smaller than my Boss- Roland BR800 eight track machines but man enough for the job.The DP006 is ideal. It has all the features of the old tape Tascams plus a few more, like onboard microphones and mastering capability. It's great for recording basic ideas at home or when I'm out and about, but as it records to an SD card like my BR800 machines do, it is capable of producing excellent quality trax that are CD quality. This has to be about the best standalone machine still available; I wouldn't be without mine.

A tiny machine with large possibilities.
This is the second similar recorder I have bought, the previous one was the four-track DP004, which is almost identical in operation, so I knew what to expect. I haven't used it seriously yet but I like the compact size, easy operation(once you get the hang of it!), and the fact tracks 3 and 4 are stereo, so it's effectively a six track. It does use up battery "juice" quite fast, although I chose it because it uses batteries and fits my analog synth rack without needing yet another power adaptor. Interestingly it was supplied with one of those teeny micro-SD cards in an adapter, rather than a standard SD card but these are so cheap it isn't a problem. Sound quality is good but it needs some pre-eq - I use a small Behringer mixer anyway. I'd say for most home musicians and touring musicians, this is a very useful machine... plus, the built in stereo mikes are good for recording ambient sounds for experimental music. Could be it has more potential than it looks!

Whether via in-built microphones or line-in the sound quality is good
I liked the build, the fidelity of the microphone input. As a sight-impaired user, the screen is a little challenging, but, that is not a fault of the product. I bought this to capture, mix and transfer acoustic and amp guitar recordings to my PC. It is a capturing device and, as such, is excellent. Would I reccomend it? Yes.It takes a little time and effort to master, but it does what it says on the tin. All I would suggest is that Tascam provides its own step by step tutorials on YouTube. That would add to the value of the device.

SD Card
Bit confused. Box says 4GB SD card, the card itself says 4GB yet when I put it in my PC, Windows tells me it's 2GB? Should be fine, but maybe the labelling is all wrong (or I'm missing something really obvious)? I note that under the box sticker that says "4GB microSD included" there is another one saying "2GB microSD included"!Aside from that, a very good little unit that does what it says. Record track, record second track etc then do final mix & export. Nice and easy. One minor irritant: it doesn't appear to playback via inbuilt speakers nornindeed even possess any such speakers. No problem really, but you will need headphones or portable speakers (non-wireless) to hear playback. I had assumed that as an audio device it would have them, but it seems not. I suppose headphones make more sense for adjusting stereo levels.
