Q: is this a frilling tool i want it for edges of easiest carnation cutter

It’s more of an impression mould- to achieve veining on polymer and ceramic clay - not flexible - possibly worth trying it though for creating crimped edges though much will depend on the medium you’re using for the flowers ..

Q: Just wondering how this works? How do you use the tool?

It is used to thin the edges of gumpaste flowers whilst also putting veins onto the petals, giving the flowers more definition and making them look realistic. This is done by rolling it gently over the gumpaste petals. I personally find it easier to do this while I hold the petal or flower either in the palm of my hand or by resting it against my index finger, although you can use it on a foam pad if you prefer. You can also use it to frill the edges of the gumpaste. By rolling it gently over the edges of your gumpaste it thins it and causes it to frill. The top of the tool can also be used to make a mouth if you're making gumpaste models and the pointed end can be used to open up the centre of flowers so that you can add stamens etc. It really is a very versatile tool if you're into sugar crafting. Q: What do you actually do with this product? Can you use it to vein say an oak leaf for example?

I use this item a lot, it is great for thinning the edges of delicate petals giving texture at the same time, I do this by gently putting the petal over my finger and rolling the veiner down and, depending on the pressure, you get a soft frill and faint texture, or with firmer pressure a deeper frill and veining; obviously if you put too much pressure on the sugar paste will crumble, so it is a matter of trial and error. For an oak leaf I would use a silicone shaped veiner where a relatively large amount of pressure can be used to create the deep veining.

This really is an absolute little Gem - excuse the pun! I did sugar flowers many years ago and have just rekindled the hobby because I am making my daughter's wedding cake in February. I have been looking for a Peony veiner for some time but to no avail - the only one I did find was on an American site and the shipping cost more than the product! I then found this little Jem and it really does work, the veining shows through to the back on the thinly rolled sugar paste. You can vein it as deep or shallow as you like. It takes up no room in storage and is very cheap to buy. I would definitely recommend buying for any petal veining and frilling..

So so,

My rating for this product is just 4 stars it came with no instructions, I am slowly starting to get better results with practice and am still unsure how I feel about it. It creates veins but you must do each side separately. I have returned to using my petal press, but use this from time to time when fine detail is needed in small areas.
