Don't waste your money -- worked once and never again
This DVD player worked once, and since then, it crashes my computer every time I put in a DVD. The DVD will usually start playing and then freeze within the first few seconds. I can't eject the DVD and my computer is completely frozen, so I have to manually shut down the computer and then restart in order to eject the DVD. Unfortunately, since I don't watch DVDs very often, I didn't discover the problems until it was too late to return it. Don't buy this -- look elsewhere.Attempted to use on a 2018 Mac Mini.

Works for now
With external drives its really hard to gage them unless you buy them, seems like a lot of them work fine out of the box only to later have them die on you. So far I have had this unit for 4 weeks and it seems to be working as advertised. I use this on a MacBook Pro to burn music CD's from iTunes and that's about it. I do not watch any DVD's on this and it is put right back in the box it came in after use. This was pretty much plug and play so there was no mystery there. Like anything else only time will tell if this is really a great purchase or not, but so far I am really happy with it.

This is a really flimsy drive. It's awkward to slide dvds into it, the way it closes is awkward and cheesy, and from the moment you use it the first time, you know you've bought a second or third-rate product.For me, it finally died a month in to owning it. The dvd tray refused to lock shut, making the device useless.

Works with MacBook Air late model 2018
I couldn't get my "old" Apple SuperDrive to work with my new MacBook Air. This drive has the Thunderbolt 3/USB-C connector that plugs directly into the Thunderbolt 3 ports on the Mac. Problem solved.

No hassles.
Worked fine right out of the box with my 2017 MacBook Pro. No drivers to install: Just plugged it into a Thunderbolt port and the computer recognized it.
