Entry level hi-fi
As a musician, I often need to play recorded material into the mix. The easiest way to do that is by plugging the phone into one of the stereo channels on my mixer. Sadly, phones don't have 3.5mm audio jacks anymore, so like most people, I was using a cheap USB dongle. It worked. More, I cannot say.I finally got sick of the crappy sound and decided to find something that would be better. In the world of the audiofile, spending hundreds or even thousands of dollars is typical for a good audio interface. I wasn't prepared to do that for this application.Enter Fiio. I have used Fiio products in the past and they've always delivered great bang for the buck. The KA1 is no exception! The high end is far more distinct than the cheap dongles, and the sound stage is noticeably larger. Finally, the bass is very natural and well-defined without being boomy. The build quality seems very good. The cable looks to use good materials and the casing on the body is aluminum, not cheap plastic. While this device basically sits on my desk, it is very small and portable if you have a pair of wired headphones you want to use on the go. This will sound much better than what's built into your phone.

Exactly what I need from an audio adapter
I am beyond satisfied with this adapter! The volume level is great, much louder than most other adapters I've tried and the quality and clarity is noticeably better as well. This is everything I need out of an adapter as a lover of headphone listening and musician. And it's only 50 bucks, works great in my car too

Fantastic for the price, Remember to check for firmware updates
I was initially wowed by how much the volume increased (Originally was way too low) though disappointed to find there was a clicking and popping sound on my Google Pixel— I was about to disappointedly get a return, but searching for a solution online I found it wasn't necessary. The product is shipped out at version 1.0, but going to the website and getting the firmware 1.3 update fixed the popping issue. Now that it's gone, I am a happy customer! Does just the job and provides enough power for your audiophile headphones, where the apple dongle was too low for my hifi headphones. The volume is amplified so much that before, I'd use an equalizer app to hear anything, now I play music at half volume. Please, before you complain about popping noise, I urge you to save yourself the trouble and check for a firmware update!!!

Added some volume, opened up the sound stage
Use this with my Audio Technica ATH-M50x and my Sennheiser 560s. Listening on Spotify at full quality. The dongle really helped power both pairs of headphones. With the Sennheiser open back cans the sound stage really seems to open up pretty noticeably. The Audio Technica cans have more pronounced highs and mids to go along with the already pronounced lows. For $50 I'm super pleased. I no longer have to max out the volume to get good sound. The dangling cable on this unit seems less than durable but only time will tell. IMHO this is definitely worth a try at such an affordable price. Great addition to my setup, especially for use out in the everyday world.

Feels good, doesn’t sound as good as a ‘normal’ adapter
I recently purchased a pair of Linsoul KZ ZS10 Pro 2 IEMs which have so far impressed me for the price. I wanted to use them with my iPhone 13 Pro for commuting but only had an old Belkin Rockstar adapter I bought a while ago. It’s a bit bulky and was not really aimed for hifi use so I figured I could get more out of the iem’s with something like this. I don’t listen to any flac, MCQ or other lossless sources, just the highest available on Spotify. This Fiio KA1 has excellent build quality and is just the right size for portability. I don’t think the cable will ever be an issue with normal usage. That said, I pretty much immediately noticed some small distortion and muddled audio compared to the belkin adapter. It was most noticeable with bass at all volumes. I won’t say it sounded like AM radio, but it was not at all what I expected and considering the price for the KA1, it’s just not worth it. Unless you really need MQA, I would probably stick with Belkin or another cheaper adapter. I only used it for 30 min or so, but as others have mentioned it looks like it does take a hit on battery life. One thing I’ll note is that my iem’s are pretty sensitive and perhaps this is more aimed at larger cans with higher impedance. Audio can be subjective and everyone has their own preferences so take this review with as much salt as needed.

Problems connecting
January 2025 Update: It no longer works. This product has too many connectivity issues with my iPhone. It frequently requires me to unplug the device and try again. When it works the audio quality sounds fine, although I have nothing else to compare it to. I do appreciate the thick braiding of the cable because it feels more robust than what I see from other brands. This ensures that it can take some mild abuse if it gets yanked a bit. Perhaps my device alone has issues but for the $50 I paid I would expect not having to wonder if it’s going to work today.

Great Portable HI-RES DAC
Great product, as an audio producer and musician I can confirm that this thing really delivers the quality it offers. Definitely worth every dollar. I use it with my S23U and I can really say that I feel either on my studio or hearing the band live (If the audio is live of course). The only bad thing is that the chord feels like its going to break, but no problem with durability at the moment.
