This works for wood, but the main problem with a probe style detector is the depth of contact. If you're working with soft woods that are 1+ inches thick then you're not even getting close to the core of the wood. The meter reading won't give you an accurate moisture reading for the core which is what wall cause all the warping. Although you can read the moisture on the end of the board, you'd have to do that right after a cut since this section will dry out quickly. Save your money and buy a higher end unit if you tend to use a lot of green lumber or mill the boards yourself.

This has helped immensely. Everyone you buy wood from states that theirs is "seasoned" "cut last summer""been drying for a year" and this being my first year burning I believed the first salesman and bought unburnble wet wood. Ather that mistake I bought this and it is awesome. Quick and easy no guessing. Split one piece of wood or of the rick you plan to purchase and stab this into the fresh cut. That simple. Your wood should be in the low 20℅ or lower.

Works as advertised. Appears to be a well built device. Time will tell about that. I had nothing to compare against except my deck wood which was recently tested at about 7%. Meter read 6.5% so probably close. After all wood moisture is kind of relative anyway.

Inaccurate. Tested several two slabs of black walnut in multiple areas... all tests came in at 8.4-9.4%. Took the slabs to a mill to have them planed. They brought out a GOOD tester... 25% moisture content. This meter is pretty much useless.

I ordered this product for my husband to determine the moisture level in our firewood. He is also a wood worker and needs to know the moisture level of the milled lumber he purchases from the saw mill. So far the meter has worked well and appears to be a good product for the price.

Tried to use it on oak firewood and it would not read.I had to drill tiny holes then insert the probes into the holes.It then read out.You can see this would be a tremendous hassle if you are checking multiple pieces and loads of firewood.(NOTE) Most reviews that were positive about this product were given the meter or given a discount.I paid for mine.I also tried it on other wood and it did the same thing.Everything else on this moisture meter worked fine.

This pin type meter worked OK for a few months and now reads very erratically on the same piece of wood and usually just counts down slowey to zero; new battery did not fix.

I purchased this item for my father. He purchased a new wood stove and was told that he should mind the moisture content of the wood he burns. He called me yesterday to tell me he is very happy he is with this product. He said he was 100% satisfied.
