Primacy; Jack of All Trades
I was looking for a portable, comfortable headphone with a removable cable and MMCX connector. I have some cables I wanted to utilize; leftover iPhone cable from the UE900 and the new Westone bluetooth cable, that would allow me to be on-the-go, listen to music, and do phone calls. Amongst the 50 headphones I've owned in the past, I PRESENTLY own:Empire Ears Legend Omega CIEMJVC FX850FLC8sCardas A8and now, the Oriveti Primacy. After weeks of research, I had nailed it down to basically 3; a 8-driver chinese IEM, DUNU DN-2002, and the Primacy. I'm still overwhelmingly curious about the DN2002, but I've owned the DN1000 and the DN2000, so I figured that I'd be trying something more 'NEW' to my ears.I'm a cut-to-the-chase kind of guy, and I don't find the current IEM review "structure" to be helpful to me, as I don't care about the structure, accessories, and box; or even the history of company. I will call out if either of those is particularly of note, however. The only thing of note is that not much is really known about dealing with this company for customer support. It would be better to have some track record, but there's nothing bad that I've heard yet.SOUND:BASS: Previous reviews had led me to believe that there was bass, but it really isn't a big part of this sound. I'm happy to report that the bass is better than that. Its actually very powerful and extends very deep. The first track I played on these was "Kiss Kiss Kiss" by Bassic. WOW, these things were thumping really, really good. The song calls for the bass to take the lead quite a bit, so you would hope the bass would be more than just heard, and this delivered. I've noticed on other tracks, it politely steps out of the spotlight like it should. Its an intelligent bass that knows when to shake you and when to fall in line.Mid: Thanks to a fairly wide soundstage, the mids do play quite nicely. They can sound a little congested at times, to my ears, and isn't as inspiring as the Final Audio Design Heaven series, but they are clear and are not at all blocked out by any of the other frequencies. The wider soundstage allows for you to pick out individual pieces, and on certain songs, I've been able to isolate sounds I hadn't noticed before. So, these are REAL good mids.High: Again, previous reviews had me expecting something different. From what I managed to find for reviews on this, it talked about how polite it was; engaging and musical, but warm and for "all day listening." Actually, the reality is that the highs are nice and sparkly. They never cross into simblant territory to me, and give me that 'pop' and 'sparkle' sensation that makes the music seems like its really alive. Its extremely difficult to get the level of sparkle that's on these and not cross into the painful, but to me, these do exactly that. Some of the most satisfying, non-fatiguing highs I've heard to date.Clarity: This is a big one for me. Some people might thing a real clear headphone is a "cold" sound signature. For me, its very impressive to essentially 'see' the space between the instruments. These play the instruments well with good texture and timbre, but even though there is good instrument separation, there is an ever-so-slight hint of some reverb (or something I can't quite put my finger on) that makes them not have as much clarity as the K3003 or FLC8s. Clear, but musical. Its somewhere between musical and analytical. This makes them for both critical listeners and leisurely listeners. I would give them an 8/10 for clarity, but that's deceiving, because that's not necessarily an actual shortcoming. It's more like where it lands on the spectrum of clarity, which a 10/10 is sometimes considered dry/analytical/cold (and some would say boring). I happen to like analytical, but these are still substantially great to my ears, and I would venture to guess that it would be for most everybody's as well in this regard. This is perhaps the best Hybrid I've heard and balancing out the whole spectrum. Its V-shaped ever-so-slightly, so its still fun, and each driver is doing what they're best at. The dynamic driver is giving you boom, the BA is giving you sparkle, and the other BA is connecting the two flawlessly.Who should buy these: These are a contender for the audiophile's dream headphone. It is beautifully balanced with industry-leading quality. Its not a FLAT sound, mind you, but it does every frequency segment a favor. They're remarkably tiny (reminds me of the PFE232), so they're light and comfortable, and their sound is never too much in any area. They won't stick out in any particular area, they're just DANG good at all of them. They're just a DANG good headphone for the money and they have a little something for everybody. They bring out the best parts of every song, and they drive the listener to the portion of the song that the artist intended you to focus on.COMPARISONS:Primacy vs A8: Bass is not as powerful as the A8. However, the A8's sound almost dark in comparison. Primacy has potential to hit just as hard, though, with a little EQ cheating. Primacy is easier to find a comfortable fit. For some reason, when trying to fit the A8, I always end up with suction on my preferred ear tips (silicone), so I most often use the foams with A8's, where I can use nearly any ear tip on the Primacy. Winner: PrimacyPrimacy vs FX850: Highs are better textured on the Primacy. FX850's, when not modded, have a larger soundstage and have a smidge better timbre to my ears. However, the FX850 is very bass-focused, and sometimes that's just way too overpowering. The primacy is more mature and a better all-arounder. Winner: PrimacyPrimacy vs FLC8s: As stated earlier, the FLC's have a bit more clarity and a colder sound. Depending on which filters you use, the FLC's can sound right on the border of too bright, and one some songs they do that. The Primacy has a little less bass, but both are top-notch. These two are very similar. The Primacy has more cable options, as the FLC connector is a really small two-pin that I couldn't get my CIEM cable into; so I'm kinda stuck with the stock cable. FLC's due to their filters, can give you a lot of variety in sound, where as the Primacy will only change with EQ. Honestly, this one is very close to a draw for me. Their sounds are both premium, and it depends a little on how you might feel about some of those factors: using them for calls, having different sound options with filters, and whether you like analytical or a little more musical. Winner: draw (as of today)Primacy vs FLC8s Round 2: AFter a lot more A-B comparisons, I picked up on more of the differences between FLC and Primacy. The FLC has a bigger soundstage by a small margin. Its spaciousness gives it a sense of more clarity, but I still wouldn't call it cold. Then, put the Blue filters on the FLC (I had the black ones on previously), and you just about have the Primacy's highs. I have to give the Winner to FLC8s on sound. I just only wish that the FLC had an easier exchangeable cable, or the MMCX. With that in mind, the Primacy still has some advantage.Primacy vs Legend Omega: Primacy is a wider soundstage. Omega is more forward. Bass on Primacy is better. Instrument separation is a little better on the Omegas (it better be with as many drivers as it has). Highs are better on the Primacy. Mids are better on the Omega. Winner: Depends on my mood. Conclusion: These have earned a place with my favorite all-time headphones. The sound is well worth the money. They're comfortable, versatile, and don't do anything poorly. Because it does everything well, its hard when you're shopping for headphones and you're reading the reviews because it doesn't stand out. However, if grading on a total score and not on a single store, these are winners.*NOTE: These do not come with a cable with mic. However, I can save you from frustration and tell you the best microphone cable with these (or anything with MMCX connectors) is the one for the Ultrasone IQ. You can buy it separately from the headphones on their website (not on Amazon yet, unfortunately). In my testings, the microphone performed remarkably with background noice. It was on par with the Plantronics Voyager Legend! Don't know what they did with their mic that no other one can seem to do, but it works great.

Good Purchase
Earphones are pretty good, accessories and presentation are also pretty good. They very comfortable and light which is great on the go. It would be great if they sold an android version, instead of the iPhone

--Introduction--Oriveti Primacy… A name that is fairly new to all of us including me. Primacy is a high fidelity triple driver hybrid in-ear monitors which consists of exclusive dual balanced armature and one 8.6mm dynamic drivers. A perfect combination to cover all treble, mids and bass, right? And it comes with handmade detachable cable which allows you to change to use your favourite cable with standard MMCX connectors. Loaded with ergonomic designed aluminium body and plenty accessories like bunches of silicon eartips, foam tips and carrying case. Hmm… Is it comfortable to wear? How about the sound quality? Stay with me to find out this new player in town performance…--Package Content--Oriveti Primacy comes with black sturdy package. There are lot of information like specifications, package contents and diagram how these triple driver are packed within the small metal body at back of the package. After opened it, you will find a quick guide. Then the precious jewel Oriveti Primacy itself that well protected with hard foam. And another layer for all the accessories. There are 4 sizes of silicone tips to choose (XS, S, M & L). And they come in 2 pairs per size. Same apply to foam tips (M) as well. Therefore, you will a spare pair if one is missing. There is flight adaptor for use in the plane and 3.5mm to 6.5mm plug for home Hi-Fi system. A pair of ear hooks for sport use. There is an earwax cleaning tool for you to maintain the cleanness of Primacy as well. Lastly, a quality aluminium carrying case with soft thin foam on top and bottom to well keep Primacy and some needed accessories. By the way, the quick guide is very useful to keep you started and enjoy Primacy.--Design & Build Quality--Oriveti Primacy is just like a tank. Build quality is excellent thanks to robust metal body. So no worry about its durability. In addition, its surface is so smooth to touch and you will hardly feel the seamless joint of the 2 piece metals that cover the hybrid drivers. Furthermore, the housing is small for 3 drivers yet provide the best ergonomic shape for maximum comfort. And pretty easy to identify left / right channel as there are white R and L inside of each housing. Plus ORIVETI for right and a big O for left on outside. The nozzle is 90 degree and without any filter. So earwax cleaning tool is there for you when needed. On top, there is MMCX connector. If you look carefully, you will find an opening near MMCX connector. Yup, that’s the vent hole for dynamic driver. And it is invisible when attached with cable yet still provide enough air for that driver. Cool, isn’t it?The black detachable silver plated copper cable is also top-notch in quality. And provide the best sound possible too. Soft and almost tangle free. There are 4 twisted wires connected from 3.5 mm gold plated straight plug up to Y-splitter. Then slit into 2 pairs till MMCX jacks which have R label for right channel and 3 dots for left. By the way, there is a clear plastic chin slider too.--Fit, Comfort & Isolation--Oriveti Primacy is designed to be worn over the ear. And they fit well thanks to small and smooth housing with or without included ear hooks. Pleasant and comfort to wear for long hours. No issue to listen to music when lying down on bed here. As for ear tip fitting, S size silicone tips give me the best result among all. I can get good and tight seal. However, Sony hybrid ones suit me even better. In addition, there is no sound leakage. And sound isolation is excellent as well. I hardly hear environment noises. By the way, there is virtually no microphonic at all by wearing over the ear. Yes, you still can wear Primacy with cable down method but you will notice some microphonics then.--Sound Quality--Wow… Oriveti Primacy is super easy to drive with 11 Ohm impedance. There is no need external amp to get the full potential out of it. It performs just fine on my Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphone and Nexus 7 (2013) tablet. And of course even better on dedicated Lotoo PAW 5000 DAP and Zorloo ZuperDAC USB DAC. Yes, you don’t have to be an audiophile to discover the greatness of Primacy. Your existing smartphone and tablet’s audio quality no matter iPhone, iPad or Android devices will automatically level up. Yup, don’t limit Primacy for high res music only. It shines on the usual stuffs like MP3, YouTube MV, games and movies too.Overall, Oriveti Primacy has smooth and balanced sound signature. Detailed and dynamic. Soundstage is wide and instruments placement separation is clear even in the complex scene. Arcason by Candido Camero and Oh by Dave Matthews surely performs very well here. You can listen to it all day long without getting fatigued. And shines on all the POP, R&B and country genre songs that I love. I believe it is suitable for other genres as well. Highs are smooth and no harshness whatsoever. Analytical and clarity on the gentle side. Mids perform well too. Vocals no matter male or female sound natural and a bit forward closer to ear yet still play along with other instruments nicely. As usual, it is loaded with clarity and details. Yup, I do enjoy the clarity of the guitar and sweet vocal with Taylor Swift’s songs like Tim McGraw and Mean that it brings. Bass is tight, fast and well in controlled. Michael Jackson’s Billie Jean, Beat It and Black or White surely sound great here.--Advantages--+ Smooth and balanced sound signature+ Detail and dynamic+ Excellent build quality+ Comfortable for long hour wear+ Silver plated detachable cable & lot accessories+ Outstanding isolation--Limitations--- Included ear tips does not yield the best result (at least for me)- Carrying case not so pocketable--Conclusion--Looking forward to upgrade your existing earphones? Be sure to try out Oriveti Primacy which has smooth and balanced sound signature. You will love the details and dynamics that it brings like I do. Furthermore, it is very comfortable for long hour wear.
