A Charlie Parker Thriller Series 1 : 5 books collection - Every Dead Thing, Dark Hollow, The Killing Kind, The White Road, The Black Angel Paperback

Drawn out, boring and with superstitious BS thrown in for heaven knows why?? Meandering and convoluted with no real conclusion as to what happened to the money….. the more I think about it , the book was awful.

I came to John Connolly late, and through books at a charity shop, which means I haven't read the Charlie Parker series in order. I don't think that matters too much, but if I could start again I would.I like Charlie, rightly or wrongly, I Iike his moral code, and the strange relationship with Louis and Angel. Not sure that would work in the real world, but makes great reading.The bad characters are always well described and Connelly always seems to get you hooked in, and really feeling the danger and vileness of them.This one seemed slower to get going, but once it hit second gear, the pages just keep turning.One of my favourite writer's.

John Connolly has written a series of high quality books about the haunted detective Charlie Parker . In my humble opinion this one the second of them is still the best .Terrific plot with a memorable boogyman villain and a cast of excellent supporting characters rounded out of course by the always excellent Louis and Angel by now realising that by helping Parker redeem himself they were redeeming themselves as well something they didnt know was possibleFast moving storyline with a great twist at the end and as is usually the case a satisfying ending that leaves you fulfilled but eager for the next entry

Still mourning for the loss of his family, Charlie Parker heads home to Maine to recuperate and try to get his life back on track. However of course it's not that easy, soon enough Parker is involved in a missing persons case and a string of brutal murders. Throw in some mob connections and the appearance of Parker's friends Louis and Angel and you've got yourself a pretty explosive mystery. Fans of well written but action packed crime books should be impressed. Slightly less macabre than its predecessor, the first in the series  Every Dead Thing: Introducing Private Investigator Charlie Parker , but still enjoyable enough.

Second in the Charlie Prker series and the promise of the first (Every Dead Thing) is well borne out. Main plot is the intersection between Parker backtracking the life of a deadbeat on the run with a serial killer's search for his son. It's a good against evil tale, elevated from cliche by Connolly's sheer wriritng ability and eye for detail. Throw in the complementary storylines (good contract killer versus bad contract killers, mafiosi on the hunt for stolen millions) and there's enough here for a couple of novels.Strong, bloody writing, read it as a powerful thriller. Add elements of a morality play and it's even better. John Connolly has set out a strong stall and, you'll be glad to klnow, keeps up the standard in later novels.
