Tiny But Mighty - Get Creative for Installation
I am an electrician, and have professionally installed similar devices in the past.My brother-in-law purchased this particular unit for his back patio. The installation and mounting of the box was slightly unorthodox, and termination of the wiring was also unorthodox. The box that the unit is mounted into is not typical for U.S. electrical installations. It is a tiny square box. This is not an "old-work" style electrical box, and I would not recommend it to be used with any of the metal bracket clamps that are sometimes utilized for keeping an electrical box in a wall. Luckily, in this instance, we are working in a completely exposed, newly constructed three-season room, and we were able to mount a 2x4 between framing studs, so that the box is mounted flush up against a stud frame, and it sticks out just enough that it will fit nicely once the drywall is installed.Running cables into the provided electrical box is extremely difficult. If you're like me, and like to use metal and/or plastic box connectors to secure your cable like you're supposed to... Forget it. Don't even waste your time. Also, leave extra wire for yourself to work, make your terminations, and ever so carefully pull cable back out as you install the device into the box.My thoughts, if I were to do it all over again, and I may purchase this for my own use, is to utilize a 2-gang (or realistically, a 3-gang) box, and secure the metal ring plate to a modified blank plate. If I do jump down that rabbit hole... I'll take pictures and provide a detailed description of that form of installation. In terms of quality and sound. I was blown away. The sound is fantastic and clear. It took us about 15 minutes of fiddling with it to really understand the settings and that we had to keep the setting on 'bluetooth' and that there is a way to turn the volume up by pressing the top right corner to access the volume settings.A+ Sound Quality.C- for Housing Design/Installation.A for Device Design.
