Tips on How to Avoid Failure and Stripped Extractor Using the screw extractor at too high of a drill speed is likely to strip the extractor and you may have to drill another bigger hole. For small diameter damaged screw, be careful not to break the drill bit off in the bolt or screw; use light pressure and allow the bit to do the work. If the screw or bolt is rusted into place, spray with a rust penetrate to help loosen the threads. Place a drop of thread cutting oil on the surface to assist the drill bit in cutting the metal. If drilling takes more than a few seconds apply additional machine oil to help keep the bit cool and cutting at peak efficiency.
