Sleek design, quite, smooth and speedy for gaming!
I love my Seagate stuff, mainly use them for my video games for years now maybe going over 10 years maybe a little more?First time getting an 8TB I needed 2 so bought one brand new for $150 and a used one that is in perfect condition with box for $100 (with a discount), these prices are amazing in my opinion for the size and brand name. The design of this is sleek and not ugly or fat like many other brand's hdds of this memory size. Its quite, and the download speeds on both my PS5 and Xbox One (2014) are perfect. The PS5 especially running at incredible speeds I downloaded my entire collection of 350+ games on it in less than a day and a half roughly. This is a must have for digital gaming hands down, thank you!

Best Bang-for-the-buck alternative to an expensive NAS
As a retired photographer, with decades of photo/video files (including tons of priceless digitally converted home movies of our daughter growing up & family events), my 10-yr old WDMyCloud had become obsolete and was dying. The cost of new NAS was simply not within my retirement budget, and paying for a cloud backup the last two years was money down the drain (This drive cost less than two years of cloud backup, is exponentially faster and a lot more convenient to access files rapidly). Other methods have their pros & cons, but cost being a personal priority, and after lots of research, I found this little jewel to be the best bang for the buck alternative. It connects to my main desktop computer via the included USB 3.0 cable, and is easy to access by all the computers/devices on my home network. I use a freeware program called FreeFileSync to back up all my important files (photos, videos, documents) daily. FreeFileSync's "mirror" option duplicates selected folders from my PC to the expansion drive and updates any changes on a daily schedule. I got the 24TB model, perfect for backing up my main desktop computer (which also has 24 TB of storage). It's a compromise from an expensive NAS but less than 1/4 the price for this much storage. File transfer speeds are typically around 200 mb/sec. and the daily backup update is done seamlessly in the middle of the night. As for longevity, only time will tell, but I've had many Seagate drives over the years, never a failure, and am quite happy with this purchase!

Happy with this drive for backup purposes.
I have been using this for about a year now. I have to be truthful it isn't connect all of the time. I connect it to the computer and run a backup and once I verify the backup the drive gets put away. I have not had any issues with it over many backups. It is very quiet and doesn't get hot. I have been able to restore files off of it without issue. I mean what good is a backup if you aren't testing it? I have used Seagate drives for many years and have had good results. Yes, I would recommend this drive.

Plenty of Room for Photo and Video Backups
I still remember the day I bought my first computer with a 40 MB hard drive. It was the early 1990s and truly thought I’d never outgrow that much “capacity.”Thirty-five years later and we’re talking terabytes, and just like money, it’s never too much.I bought this Seagate 4TB external drive to backup all the photos and videos I shoot with my iPhone, and even though I will outgrow it in a year or two, I’ll just get another one when this one is full (I want to save the thousands of pics and vids I have).I was fortunate to pick it up as a Prime offer, so I got a sweet deal. Installation was super easy and got it connected in a matter of minutes. It’s super fast, too, so I can use it just as I do the hard drive.Thank you for reading! 😊👍🏻

No issues with clicking or sleeping
It's becoming harder and harder to find external hard drives that won't click like crazy when they are powered on, or ones that won't go sleep / power saving mode all the time and cause very long copying sessions (like backing up another drive) to fail. This drive doesn't have either issue. It's very quiet when being used, and it stays awake 100% of the time. I got through several 30+ hour copying sessions without any issues. It's a 5400 RPM drive so it's pretty slow as one would expect but it's really intended for backups. Like most HDDs you get the best throughput when copying large files, not small files, so if you have to work with a lot of small files be cautious. The unit does run very hot and I had to point a little desktop fan at mine to keep the temps cool. It has good ventilation on both sides of the unit when you lay it flat (not vertical) so not much cooling is required. It just boggles the mind why they didn't throw in a cheap little fan inside the case to do the job. So at least Seagate designed it to have good support for airflow across the drive, but you'll need to provide the fan.I checked out the drive with some self tests using SeaTools. I haven't used SeaTools in a while but it is absolute garbage now, so other than some initial checks to make sure the drive is good, you won't want to use it again.Overall I'm pretty happy with this unit. Only time will tell if it remains reliable, but the out of the box experience (speed and heat aside) was excellent.

The largest data storage device I have outside of my Desktop Computer
5/5 RatingPicked this up during Amazon Prime Day and got a great deal for it. I'm a photographer and we're always using storage for our images and if you shoot raw images the space they take up can get out of hand. This 5 TB storage is the largest I have outside my desktop. This will easily hold 2 years of photo storage for me. Great accessory to your data storage.ProsEasy to useHolds a lotFairly fastConsUSB- 3.1. Most devices now are USB-C. You can still use USB-C if I'm correct, you will just have to configure it just right.
