Enjoyable Read
I’m a picky reader. I don’t like predictable storylines. Corny plots stink. Larry McMurtry is my favorite author. With all of that being said, The Yankee Widow is a great read. I didn’t know how the book would end. I was not sure what would be the cause/effect relationship considering character situations. The final line made me smile.

Great Read
I enjoyed this novel,it was a great read very well explored, and detailed telling of that time, not as steamy as most of your other novels, but a page turner nonetheless. I would expect nothing less from my favorite author. Sincerely your best fan.

Interesting history
Caroline Hammond's husband Jacob is wounded at Chancellorsville, where he fought on the Union side. He has a brief moment while on the field with Southern officer Bridger Winslow, and Caroline meets Rogan McBride, a Union officer, in Washington, where she goes to find Jacob. Bridger and Rogan are best friends, fighting on opposite sides and dreading the day they'll meet in battle. Caroline brings Jacob's body home to their farm in Gettysburg, and Caroline, Rogan, and Bridger meet again in July during the famous battle. There's also a nice subplot with Enoch, the ex-slave who works for the Hammonds and Jubie, a pregnant escaped slave. Ms. Miller writes with good historical detail about the days leading to the battle and the aftermath. There are also interesting snippets about life on a Pennsylvania farm in the Civil War period.

Hard to put down!
Best book I’ve read in a while! Civil War with nothing left out, the heartbreak, courage and loss of everything held dear, yet they carried on.

Best Book I’ve Read in a Long Time!
Ms. Miller’s finest! I learned so much about the Civil War, and the characters were so interesting and well drawn. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves historical romance, without the gratuitous sexuality and filthy talk. A wholesome, finally drawn novel of suspense, historical significance, and wonderful endings.

Civil war period fiction
This author's bio says she has studied the civil war for decades. I also study the civil war and Gettysburg. Uncomfortable civilian experiences and historical facts abound. The first half of the book I read along with more recent Gettysburg subject history books. Dreaded some parts that turned out better than expected in the fictional story. The romance story was disappointing. The Northern female has strong opinions at the start. But she leaves her land, grandmother and her buried husband for an enemy suitor who she knew very briefly and one lustful kiss. She told the Union suitor she wanted no romantic involvement with men.The writer seemed to insert Lost Cause sentiments towards rebel leaders and disparaged union leaders.I've read this author's western fiction for decades but not for years now. I got this book recently since it was about Gettysburg. It covered real history with some bias. The writer only disclosed the bad character of the male winner to the reader, not to the female character.

Historical elements felt authentic, the romance did not.
This was a heavy book to read as it covered a very difficult time in our nation’s history. I felt like the author did a good job conveying the hardship, loss and disillusionment people must have experienced. I was, however, disappointed in the romance. It felt rushed and underdeveloped. It left me feeling unsatisfied.
