The definitive book on Internal Combustion engines.
While asking about airplane ignitions an expert dismissed me by recommending this two book set. Its a monster set of data and not for the faint of heart. Most of the crackpot information learned as a shade tree mechanic was junk. This pair of book answered the question and fixed misinformation.

Lots of Thermodynamics
This is the first of two volumes. It deals, mostly, with the Thermodynamic processes. A lot of information, but requires some engineering background. An important textbook to have in your library, if you are interested in the theory of internal combustion engines.Volume II, which deals with design considerations, is available through MIT Press.

This is the first book of a two-book set of CF Taylor's masterful presentation of the state of internal combustion engine technology at the time of publishing. Taylor is considered one of the gurus of field.

Be aware that the boom does not use international standards for the units.
The book is as good as all reviews here claims but be aware that it is written with English units. It is not a problem but it would be nice to have an edition with the International standards.

Wish i was an engineer or mathematician to appreciate it fully.
You need to be a engineer to read it, however there's graphs and tables that are reasonably self explanatory.
