Worked great for 4 months, wore down after 5, stopped working after 7
Two stars because they worked great for several months, then they just failed me.My office is detached and about 40 feet from our main house, so regular WiFi signals won't reach. I purchased the Devolo Magic 2 Starter Kit in August 2021 to use as a powerline adapter, installed it about a month later.Installation steps and instructions were clear enough, though not completely intuitive. Just make sure you understand which way you're using it: as a powerline adapter or as mesh technology. Powerline is to stretch your signal--through your home's powerlines--from point A next to your modem to a faraway point B. Point B creates its own WiFi hotspot. Mesh is more for boosting the signal all around your home if there are slow spots. My Devolo devices worked great to start! I was getting the same speeds in my office as I would sitting right next to the modem in the house--between 60-100 Mbps download. This was fine for about four months, then I started getting 'hiccups' in my connection and noticed my speeds weren't as reliable fast. That went on for a month or six weeks, then we upgraded our modem/router and had to reset the Devolo devices. When I re-paired them in the same room in the house as the modem, speeds were amazing. 100+ Mbps. When I moved Device B into the office, the most speed I could get was like 4 to 6 Mbps, too slow and unreliable to conduct my work.I contacted Devolo support. They are very easy to get in touch with on the phone and the rep I spoke with was super nice. We tried several things that didn't fix the issue, so he had me email their support team describing what we'd tried and what the problems were.Email support got back to me the very next day with clear, specific suggestions and instructions to troubleshoot. I tried everything they suggested, but still nothing fixed the slow speed, and I wrote them back with the bad news. Here is their response:'Unfortunately, after verifying your different support information, we have to inform you that at least one adapter is defective.Even if both adapters are plugged in the same room, the transmission value remains very low (in the same room, this value must be very high, since there are only a few interference factors in the short distance).Even after checking your photos, we can see that both adapters are plugged in correctly. Since the adapters are plugged in correctly and the adapters reach a very low value even when plugged in close, we have to assume a defect.Warranty cases are transacted via the dealer or distributor where the devolo devices were bought. Please contact your dealer or distributor. This is the only way to claim the devolo manufacturer's warranty.'And of course the return window is only a month after purchase, support window is six months after purchase. So, seven months after installing the devices, they are now useless to me and I'm out $157.24 for those and whatever it's going to cost me to buy new devices. Very disappointing. Nice and responsive people at Devolo, but unable to fix my issue.

Very Easy to Installs
The WiFi kit is very easy to install. All you have to do is to plug in the main unit, then plug in your LAN. Wait a minute or so, then plug in the second unit. If the two lights on the main unit turn solid white, you are good to go. It is important to plug the units directly in the wall socket, not through a surge suppressor. Just as a test, I plugged the main unit in the a surge protector. It still worked, but the home light started blink in a pattern of long white and short red, which indicates poor power line. The speed is good near the main unit. I was getting a minimum of 800Mbps at up to twenty feet from the unit. However, the remote unit was having a strange problem. All three devices, an LG V30 phone, an iPhone 11, and a Brand new Mac book, were having signal fluctuating wildly. It appears to be switching between the two units while one was 3 feet away and the other one was 40 feet away through and one floor down. Yes, the main unit was strong enough to get through the floor 40 feet away, but the signal was weak. Web traffic was laggy at times due to the fluctuation. The fluctuation got better after 15 minutes or so, but it was not totally gone. By the way, I was using an Ethernet cord for the uplink, not via WiFi.The SSID and password is pre-programmed. You will have to download the Devolo "Home Network" app if you want to change it. The documentation is simple and clear, but it failed to tell me I needed additional software in order to change the SSID and password. The info maybe in the booklet somewhere. If so, it is not where it should have been, like right after the initial installation. I had to go to their website to find out I needed the extra software.I have not tested the Ethernet port at the remote unit. I didn't get this unit for the Ethernet extending capability. I got it as a Wi-Fi extender, but with the uplink through the power line instead of through a mesh. I didn't want a mesh since I didn't want to use half of the available bandwidth for backhaul.Until I can resolve the signal fluctuation problem, I can not wholeheartedly recommend this product. I gave it four star because it is extremely easy to set up and the speed at the main unit is pretty good.

Not worth the money: Doesn't perform as advertised
This item is considerably more expensive than other powerline adapters and boasts high speeds. I know not to expect what's written on the box, especially from a powerline adapter, but wow, compared to other powerline adapters I've had in the past, the price does not match the performance at all. My download speed was 15MBPS down and I have 800MBPS down downstairs directly connected to my router. Compared to the PLP2000 I had previously which was $100 less, which had a download speed of 50MBPS, this product doesn't compare at all. Wifi network was just as horrid as the direct connect to the powerline adapter. If you're looking for a powerline look elsewhere.
